Octa(via) Möbius Sheffner, often abbreviated to OMS; Russian-born, Kazakhstan-based; sound collagist / self-described "baroque scrapyardist", visual artist, signs & symbols & keywords enthusiast. Illeism & No Consolation is the title of this record; illeism is self-reference in third person, No Consolation is the natural state of most things; it was cobbled together in an afternoon, in a white, sweaty, one sitting, still-drank-two-liters-of-water flash of inspirational heat, consisting of artist's personal sample library (Soulseek hoard and sound thirst), YouTube improvisation borrowing, improvised purely reactive vocals. Recommended for those who own a copy of "treated Victorian collage novel", A Humument by Tom Philips or admire the set design of Peter Greenaway's films. Recommended for those who would prefer Negativland forewent speech and instead focused on interaction between sounds pulled from all over the nexus, guaranteed to be worth something for fans of Einsturzende Neubauten's repurposing of any and all objects as equal instruments. May make you wish the artist was signed to Hyperdub or Editions Mego.
